Sport fishing is a perfect practice for anyone who is passionate about fishing and has a yearning for adventure, especially when we talk about fishing in the Amazon region. In addition to being a totally sustainable practice, for helping to preserve the important species of the Amazon rivers, it also contributes with income in the riverside cities.

The territory of Amazonas, being covered in its entirety by the largest tropical forest in the world, maintaining 98% of its area preserved and with a gigantic biodiversity, makes it extremely suitable for this activity.

FISHING PERIOD IN AMAZONAS

The fishing season takes place from August to March, depending on the region of the Amazon basin, as the water levels rise and fall in the rivers that normally go from:

• JULY to OCTOBER – fisheries in the south (rivers Madeira, Madeirinha, Sucunduri, Pineapples, Uatumã, etc.);
• NOVEMBER to MARCH – fisheries in the north (Negro, Cuiuni, Aracá, Demeni, Urubaxi, Preto, Branco, etc. rivers).
Note: The fishing season may change due to climatic conditions in the region.

MAIN PLACES FOR SPORT FISHING IN THE AMAZONAS

Among the most popular destinations for sport fishing in Amazonas are the municipalities of Barcelos (399 km from Manaus), Santa Isabel do Rio Negro (630 km from Manaus) and Novo Airão (115 km from Manaus).
According to the National Association of Ecology and Sport Fishing (Anepe) Presidente Figueiredo, Itapiranga, São Sebastião do Uatumã, Balbina, Silves, Parintins, Anori and Manaus usually organize fishing tournaments in the month of September.

FISH FROM THE REGION GENERAL FOUND IN SPORT FISHING PRACTICES

Among the main fish caught during sport fishing in the Amazon are fish: Tucunaré-açú, Tucunaré-paca, Tucunaré-butterfly, Traíra, Piraíba, Aruanã, Bicuda, Cachorra, Piranha-preta and Pirarara.
These fish usually vary depending on the river, locality and month of the fishing season.
So while fishing on these rivers, don’t expect to find all the fish.
